Expertise expanded

Tailored to market requirements – the PFERD range of solid carbide tools for stationary applications promises its well-known high level of quality for standard and customized solutions.

For the past year, globally renowned metalworking brand PFERD has been offering solid carbide tools for stationary applications. The range of solid carbide end mills has gradually been expanded over this time. When PFERD acquired a majority stake in Italian tool manufacturer Silmax, the global, long-established company from Marienheide in Germany added not only a leading manufacturer of milling and drilling tools to its portfolio, but also its long-standing expertise in the development and production of machining tools for stationary applications.

“We already offer a highly capable range of universal end mills,” underlines Dr Ina Terwey-Scheulen, whose role as Director Marketing & Product Management at PFERD includes responsibility for designing and positioning the new range. “We have again significantly expanded our expertise in this new specialist field in recent years with respect to our already-high quality standards for precise micro and macro geometries together with state-of-the-art coatings.”

Developer Dr Mark Wolf adds that development work has primarily focused on the productivity of the tools. “Efficiency through optimum stock removal rates is one of the core requirements of the market and that is precisely what we have focused on.” Based on numerous performance tests on common materials, the team know exactly what the tools are capable of. “The tools from the range of universal end mills feature impressive resistance to wear even when faced with challenging cutting values. We are also observing that PFERD’s local problem-solving expertise provides clear advantages to customers and is something that is valued.”

The PFERD range comprises universal high-performance tools for working on key materials and for common stationary applications. Joint development work with demanding consumers in the field of solid carbide milling tools has led PFERD to focus on this basic range. “We will expand this range, maintaining the focus on what is needed,” says Ina Terwey-Scheulen, looking to the future. “In doing so, we will be very happy to respond to customers’ requirements and produce tailored solutions according to customers’ wishes.” The tools are manufactured at the factory in Marienheide.
